First Crocus of 2016

Very warm temperatures today and the crocus just popped out! Looks like team purple and white is in the lead, although team yellow not far behind.

I just read this in Mary Schmich’s column in the Trib:

“I glanced out the window the other morning and there in the bare tree were two red-breasted birds that I think were robins. Later, as I walked up the street, I spotted a couple of white snowdrops flowering in the dry, hard dirt.

Spring? Not quite. Spring is really two seasons in Chicago. There’s faux spring, which begins about now, and there’s full spring, which usually holds off until May.

Snowdrops and red robins are to real spring what spring training is to baseball season — a glimpse of a pleasant future.”
